Western Chair Upholstery Class with Sierra Shores @ The Rusted Roan Design Co. Join Sierra Shores from the Rusted Roan Design Co. for a beginner western chair upholstery class. This class is great for students wanting to start or expand their upholstery skills with an emphasis on western design.

It is limited to 5 students for higher quality instruction. This is a non-sewing western design upholstery class, no experience necessary.

What is included in the class: The use of upholstery tools, compressors, instruction for the three days, and educational information.

Prior to this western chair upholstery class, students must submit for approval a picture of the project they would like to work on. Choosing the right chair to reupholster will help you complete the project within the allotted time frame (3 days). Please send pictures to Sierra by email at sierra@therustedroan.com.

*Student is responsible for bringing their own chair and fabric. If you do not have a chair or fabric, contact Sierra and she will furnish the chair and fabric at additional cost*

Class Outline

Day 1: Introductions and getting started on your project. Develop a plan for what you want to accomplish over the 3-day workshop. Take notes, so you have a reference for future projects when you get home. Become familiar with the process, tools and get started on your project and upholstering. By the end of day one, spring systems/foundations are in place and the seat of your chair is completed.

Day 2: Work on your project and continue to make progress. The seat and inside back of your piece should be completed or close to completion.

Day 3: You’ve made good progress. We will be working on outside backs and decorative tacks. You should be finishing up your piece today.

What the student is responsible for: Students will be responsible for their chair frame project and fabric. Each student will bring their project (this must be approved before the class). Some ideas for a project would be dining seats, a small occasional/side chair, rocking chair, or an ottoman. Frames (new or vintage), custom western prints, western fabric, hair on hides, embossed leathers, and additional finishes (decorative tacks, etc) are available for purchase separately prior to the class start date. Please have your piece torn down to the bare frame prior to the class and bring the old fabric and stuffing with you.

You can bring your own tools or upholstery tools are provided. If any frame repair is needed, this should be done before class. If you would like your frame painted/stained, this should be done before class. Once you’ve signed up, and your frame is approved, Sierra will email you a few details you’ll need to know before you attend the class. Feel free to email Sierra with questions before signing up. sierra@therustedroan.com
