Build Armitas with Chelsea Sazama of Rocking S Saddle Shop

$975.00

January 18th and 19th, 2023

Limited to 8 Students

Each student will build his/her own set of armitas! Armitas are very similar to chinks. The difference is the fringe around the top belt instead of the yokes (see picture). Armitas are known to allow for more freedom of movement in the waist area! Plus, they look neat!

Beginners and older youth are welcome! No prior leatherworking experience required.

We will be doing quite a bit of hammering, cutting with sharp knives/scissors, etc. I will provide sewing machines to use. No prior sewing experience required.

What this class will cover:

  • How to take proper measurements to build a custom-fitting set of armitas
  • Pattern Drawing
  • Types of leather that are good for different styles of armitas/chinks/chaps
  • Parts of the hides that are best suited for different uses
  • How to cut out and geometric stamp the belts
  • Hand-sewing and machine sewing
  • Fringe cutting
  • Riveting
  • All necessary leather, buckles, hardware and tools will be provided

Each student will pick ONE color hide to use for their armitas. See pictures & drop-down menu for selection.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact Chelsea. She will be happy to address any questions or concerns. Chelsea Sazama 406-939-2277
