Wield your pen, strum your strings, rhyme your rhythm and round up your words for Art of the Cowgirl 2021.
Join Lynda Thurston, award winning poet and professional songwriter and band member of Genuine Cowgirls for an intensive journey into the words that help us capture and appreciate the west. Co-hosted by poet and songwriter Ken Jones, featured in Charlie Seamanns book, “The Real Singing Cowboys.”
This workshop will begin with a full day Thursday followed by additional meet times throughout the weekend during the Art of the Cowgirl Event for class participants to continue working on their art with sessions each day.
Workshop attendees are also eligible to sign up to present on the Art of the Cowgirl stage during open mic hosted by Ken Jones. If you are a writer, singer, poet, or just a lover of words this class is sure to inspire and challenge you to try new things and appreciate the gift of language. All experience levels welcome.
This workshop is $250 and includes a ticket into Art of the Cowgirl January 13th-17th as well as the option to perform on the Art of the Cowgirl Stage. The proceeds from this workshop will go towards Art of the Cowgirl’s Fellowship Program.

About Lynda Thurston
Lynda Thurston is a former assignment writer and broadcast journalist who hosted the Northern Lights Rodeo program for fifteen years on stations throughout Western Canada. Thurston’s stories have been published in numerous magazines throughout the west and she was the Kamloops Cowboy Festival Rising Star winner for Western Poetry. Her band Genuine Cowgirls has recorded one album in Nashville titled “Songs from the Saddle Shop.” The rancher, writer, and rodeo mom was also the second woman to quality for her P.R.C.A announcers card in 1986. The mother of four great rodeo competitors many people may not know that World Champion Bronc Rider Zeke Thurston is her second oldest son. A lifelong love of the west brings passion and insight to Lynda’s art.
About Ken Jones
Ken Jones has been entertaining for more than 45 years and recorded 3 albums of mostly original music. Living in Colorado for 30 years he had a band, “Cowboy Ken and the Ranch Hand Band” that performed on their dude ranch and at many cowboy music festivals and western dinner music shows including the Western Music Association festivals, Colorado Cowboy Poetry Gathering, and Willie Nelson’s Farm Aid concert in 1994 at the New Orleans Superdome. Ken was recently featured in Charlie Seamann’s New book, “The Real Singing Cowboys.” Moving to the Bitterroot Valley of Montana 15 plus years ago, he is now a full- time saddle maker who has recently started to get out there again. He does original and obscure western folk artists songs and his favorite thing is to write a song about what’s going on in his mind!
